  1. The tasks were attempted but were never completed as they ought to have been. My tardiness is to be blamed ... but then what was I doing instead ?? Well, it was almost as if I were taking exams! Not exactly, rather my elder kids were taking exams ... For the first time in their lives it was a full-fledged exam i.e. 3-hours long papers, seating arrangement suitable for exams, a date-sheet and prep-days in between some papers. So it was a complete exam with all the paraphernalia. Thus, I thought that perhaps I must help them in 'rote' learning as there is no other way to get good grades in current schooling system unless the exact answers is blurted out! I am glad their misery and my suffering at the hands of education has come to a halt - even if for brief moment :-) I guess I can rejoice at the idea of spending some time on my PhD research without being guilty conscious of not helping my kids get good grades by rote learning ... On a side note I should build more patience and let my kids, think, wonder, ask, attempt and explore things at their own will so that they may develop skills at finding and solving their own problems.

The other 'important' thing that I did instead of working on the mutually-agreed-self-assigned tasks was to help Faisal get his paper off his head ... Well, I must confess that I had a stake in it in the form of a Co-author --- So what if it is at the 4th place! --- A journal paper is a journal paper and a co-author can always claim it as one of his papers :-) ... But I must accept that Faisal is such an amazingly focused person! If he thinks that one can help him get his job done he'll take all the pains to get the 'one' help him out ... Such a focus is so much required in PhD that it can never be more than required :-) ... And as Faisal is gunning for his dissertation defence before the year-end it is fitting for him ... All the best
